8 ASSEMBLAGE BOARDS

Installation 2020, eight sculptures in boxex, wood, metal, dimensions variable

The photographic work originated from the arts-based research „Orientation as Gardening“: Who are we in relation to what surrounds us? How can we question our anthropocentric perspective? Orientation is taken literally here in facing east. Eight sculptures, inspired by Japanese shelves for stones and bonsai and enlarged to human dimensions, unfold their own stories in the public space of Tokyo, London and Vienna. These Assemblage Boards reflect their respective locations, develop their stories and, as tools, potentially allow everyone to behave differently towards them – and thus to the surrounding space. The spectator and the actor merge and hence form a paradoxical field, an intermediate space in which encounters become possible. Recurring to the Asian composition principle of the Eight Views each board creates a reference point – like a coordinate system –, around which all involved bodies act, including one’s own.
